This body of work deals with travel in a metaphoric sense. In addition, I'm depicting altered scenes from around the USA. I took a trip across country for an exhibition back east this summer and got much material for new work. I'm combining video, digital compositions, drawings, imprinting techniques as well as my traditional oil painting methods to create hybrid works. Some of the pieces deal with incongruity and that is very much a theme with this new body of work. Pieces like "Parachutes and Palms," "Signs," and "Reaching Higher," revolve around this motif. I love the idea of doing the double take and saying to oneself, "hey, that can't really be like that?!" and yet life offers up some strange incongruities and they always have some sort of meaning, however provocative and strange. I've never been at all interested in depicting the world as I see it, but rather as I "feel and sense it." In addition to exploring the idea of travel in a metaphoric/symbolic sense, I've been gaining more mastery of imprinting techniques and you'll see some examples of these pieces here.
